Are you Class Parent material?
Posted: 9/13/2022
If you came here to read this, we think you are!
Class parents act as a liaison between the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and your child's elementary homeroom teacher, as well as the other parents in the class.
Being a class parent is more than an opportunity to have fun at your child's class parties (although that's definitely a perk), it's your chance to get to know the other students in the class and their families, and to demonstrate to your child the importance you place on their education.
We know that if you're considering doing it for the first time, it might feel overwhelming. You're probably wondering, "What do I have to do, exactly?" Here are some basics...
As an SAPTO Class Parent, you:
- are our direct line of contact with the parents in your class;
- coordinate class celebrations (Halloween, Holiday, and End of Year) with your child's teacher;
- attend bi-monthly meetings and communiate with parents afterwards to let them know of important news/dates;
- assist your teachers during Fun Day and/or class trips;
- plan the Class Donation basket for the Founder’s Day Tricky Tray in years that it is held.
That about sums it up! We're in the process of updating our Class Parent handbook, which will be reviewed at a mandatory Class Parent meeting on Tuesday, October 4, mostly like at the ES Cafeteria. You'll get to meet your grade representative, review our handbook, and get your official badge. :)
